Tea workers receive cash aid, houses in Moulvibazar

Each tea worker received 5,000 Tk as cash assistance

The government distributed around 94 lakh Tk to 1,879 tea workers at Barlekha upazila in Moulvibazar as part of the program to improve the living conditions of tea workers.

The Minister of Environment, Forests and Climate Change, Md Shahab Uddin, distributed the cash aid as a guest of honor at a reception held at the Upazila Parishad auditorium.

Each tea worker received 5,000 Tk as cash assistance under the program implemented by the Department of Social Welfare.

He also handed over the keys to newly built houses worth 68 lakh Tk among 17 families, according to a press release from the ministry.

In another ceremony held at Barlekha upazila, Shahab laid the foundation stone for a Tk1.03 crore university building of the Nari Shikkha Academy Degree College and inaugurated a flower garden marking the centenary of the birth of the father of the nation Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman.

Among others, the acting secretary general of the League Barlekha Upazila Awami Rafiqul Islam Sundar, the mayor of the municipality of Barlekha Abu Imam Md Kamran Chowdhury, the director of the AKM college Helal Uddin and the local leader of the League Kabiruzzaman Chowdhury were present. at the meeting with Barlekha Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) Khandaker Mudassir Bin Ali in the chair.
