KOTA KINABALU (21 Mar): Looking after those in need, Yayasan Bank Rakyat (YBR) has provided one-time cash assistance of RM1,000 each to 80 students from Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) to start their studies on Monday.

Its board member, Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Bakri, said the total contribution of RM80,000 is expected to help the students of the university, especially those in B40.

“In addition to easing the burden on students, this is our initiative to reduce the financial burden on parents before obtaining aid or funds to pursue their studies.

“We hope that more competent bodies will come forward and provide our students with the necessary assistance to help them feel the excitement of entering a higher education institution,” he said.

For the record, a total of 3,277 students have received benefits through YBR as of March 21, with a total allocation of RM2.2 million since 2017.

A replica of the audience was handed over to UMS Vice Chancellor Prof. Datuk CHM Dr. Taufiq Yap Yun Hin in the presence of UMS Board Member Datin Hajah Nurlaila Said.
